We offer free, private, confidential tutoring to anyone who would like to learn how to read.<\/p>\n<p>We offer a free training program to prepare volunteers and we provide ongoing support when a tutor&#8217;s work with a student begins.\u00a0The first portion of the tutor training is done online and takes about 5 hours to complete. A tutor generally spends 1-2 hours a week with\u00a0their student once instruction begins.<\/p>\n<p>Call\u00a0Jeff Pratt\u00a0at\u00a0336-816-7758\u00a0or email him at <a href=\"mailto:jpratt@brookwoodflorida.org\">jeff@bclpstokes.org<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To expand during the next several years by:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Continuing high-quality instruction for tutors and students.<\/li>\n<li>Creating partnerships with various local agencies to develop and support literacy programs.<\/li>\n<li>Providing service to the justice system.<\/li>\n<li>Developing a program of support for struggling primary readers in partnership with Stokes County Schools.<\/li>\n<li>Developing summer and after-school programs for struggling readers.<\/li>\n<li>Add GED Preparation to our services.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are the only literacy service available to adult non-readers and children struggling to read in Stokes and eastern Surry Counties.
